Gardening:

I recently
moved, and when I did I took over 200 dearly loved perennial plants
with me, all of which I dug up, divided and potted. I'm writing
about that at times overwhelming experience, as well as about gardening
in general, since it is one of the enduring passions of my life.

Do
It Yourself Projects:

When
I sold my house in order to buy a larger house to share with my
fiancé, I moved into a wonderful suburb of Philadelphia,
PA that was developed almost entirely before 1965. The most venerable
houses date back to the mid-1700s, but most were built in the middle
of the 20th century, and the house we bought-built in 1952-is typical
of the area: It's solid stone and brick, with gleaming hardwood
floors, highly detailed millwork and three and a half wonderful
baths that are still, amazingly, 80% original. Restoring those beautiful,
full-tile baths to their former glory, ripping out way too much
nasty 1970s wallpaper and wall-to-wall carpeting, and painting,
fixing, improving every detail of my house is my new obsession.
And I'll be documenting all of it, in words, photos and video, in
my DIY blog.

Movies:

I am
fascinated by the rich visual vocabulary of film and have long been
a student of the surviving movies from the silent era as well as
early talkies, pre-code gems, film noir and quirky comedies. My
movie blogs are a way for me to share my interest in cinematography
and the language of imagery, so sit back, munch your popcorn and
enjoy!

Real Estate

In
2011, in the midst of the worst housing market we've seen since
The Great Depression, I not only sold my house myself, I got my
asking price--which ended up being a full $60,000.00 over what
two Realtors had tolsd me my home was worth. I am writing a series
of articles that will explain, step by step, exactly how I did
it.
